Not sure if I can ever really take Sam Harris as serious. He has no concept of consciousness in my book, and how an AI system would work if it became "self aware".

I disagree with Sam Harris on a hell of a lot, but I think what he mentions here is undeniable. Artificial intelligence may never have consciousness, but the threat of ai advancing in intelligence beyond our control is still important to consider I think. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to be gained. AI could send us hundreds or thousands of years into the future with advances, but we can't so quickly give it the benefit of the doubt and ignore what's at stake.
